چکیده
Some years ago Osborne and Mendell drew attention to the frequency of calculi in the urinary tract of rats on a vitamin Adeficient diet. In 857 autopsies they found calculi 81 times. “In every instance,” they wrote, L’where calculi developed, the animals were without an adequate source of the fat-soluble vitamin for some time.” Mendel once more referred to this matter at a meeting of the Medical Society of the State of New York in March, 1920, in an address on the fat-soluble vitamin A. He said on that occasion, that Osborne and himself had observed additional cases and that the formation of phosphate calculi with vitamin A deficiency is still more frequent than would appear from their statistics.

Studies on Interrelation of Vitamin A Deficiency and Bladder Stones Formation
Serum Vitamin A, total protein, serum electrophoresis, were determined in pediatric patients with urolithiasis (mostly bladder stones) and compared to that of normal healthy volunteers. The level of Vitamin A in healthy volunteers was found to be significantly (P<0.001) higher than that of patients with urolithiasis. The amount of total serum protein, however, was not significantly different i...

متن کاملElevated serum levels of Vitamin D in infants with urolithiasis.
INTRODUCTION The pathophysiology of urolithiasis in infancy is not well known. The aim of this study was to investigate whether infants with urolithiasis have higher serum levels of vitamin D, as a possible risk factor for urolithiasis, compared to infants without urinary calculi. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this case-control study, 36 infants with urolithiasis (age range, 2.5 to 24 months) were...

Deficiency of vitamin B12 leads to megaloblastic anemia, degeneration of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and abnormalities of epithelial tissues. Two factors are necessary for the cure of megaloblastic anemia: one in food (extrinsic factor) and one i...
